Cuba

As Charles Morris takes a walk with his dog, Clementine, he’s reminded of what it means to have a servant’s heart.

So many friends of Haven Ministries have had a servant’s heart in the last year by providing help and hope in Ukraine and Cuba. Will you extend that same heart to Haven this month as we end our fiscal year on June 30?

Make Your Fiscal Year End Gift

When Covid broke out, Haven ministered about faith, not fear. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Haven reported from the border to provide aid in the form of food and Bibles. And when you need hope during your own personal storms in life, Haven is there every day with messages and interviews to help you behold and follow Jesus. This is all possible thanks to friends like you.

For nearly nine decades, Haven Ministries has helped countless listeners, readers, unbelievers, believers, and everyone in between find their hope in Christ as they face life’s storms. Will you help us continue this vital ministry in the months to come?

June 30 marks the end of Haven’s fiscal year and we need $698,628 to finish the year with no red ink. Would you prayerfully help Haven with a gift at this most critical moment?

Born in Miami shortly after his parents fled Cuba during Fidel Castro’s revolution, Danny Rojas is a Christ follower with a heart for the Cuban Church. Today, he is now the director and speaker of Haven’s Spanish broadcast to Cuba El Faro de Redención.

In this episode, you’ll hear how Danny became the head of this ministry, as well as how he saw Christ on the move in Cuba during his very first trip to the island last week.

Danny Rojas has been serving in pastoral and music ministry for over 25 years. His wife Luann is also from Miami and of Dominican descent. Danny earned a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Theology. He serves his local church as an elder and worship leader. His passion and heart for El Faro de Redención is to share Christ-centered, grace-focused content along with the voice of the Cuban church, so that many in Cuba, as well as across the Spanish-speaking world, will find life and rest in Christ.

Give to Haven’s Cuba Broadcast

Haven’s Cuba broadcast El Faro de Redención is the only Christian radio program producing on-the-ground stories from local Cuban Christians to air alongside Christ-centered messages throughout Cuba. Over the past few years, El Faro has become a cherished resource for the many Cubans who continuously face unimaginable challenges every day.

Will you make a gift today and participate in what the Lord is doing through Haven’s crucial Spanish ministry?

On its way to Florida, Hurricane Ian built colossal strength over the Caribbean.

The already struggling country of Cuba was unfortunate enough to be in its path, leading to a countrywide blackout for 11 million people. The storm also wiped out access to safe water for many — especially those in Cuba’s rural western region that was hit hardest.

Soon after making landfall in Cuba, Ian grew to become a strong category 4 hurricane causing catastrophic damage through Florida. Unlike North America, however, relief response is almost non-existent in Cuba.

That’s why Haven is partnering with an on-the-ground ministry already connected to local churches throughout the island nation to provide safe water to communities that don’t have adequate resources. You can make a gift to help provide safe water for Cuba here.

But how do these water systems work?

The ministry Haven is working with (un-named for diplomatic reasons) has placed numerous clean water systems in churches and seminaries all across Cuba.

Just in this past year alone, over one million gallons of clean water was distributed free of charge to communities served by local churches. Each system includes a portable generator to keep the the operation running during power outages — which is especially crucial in this crisis.

Able to produce 300 gallons of safe water a day, the hardware alone for one system costs $7,500. For this reason, it’s absolutely critical to equip local churches and seminaries to become community hubs for both safe water and living water in Jesus Christ.

Several trained teams in Cuba are always at the ready to teach church workers to install, maintain, and operate the systems. These church workers are then trained to teach good hygiene to those receiving the clean water.

What a way for Christians to make an impact for the Gospel!

Safe Water For Cuba

Will you respond now to help support this critical ministry to Cubans in desperate need of safe water?

Cuba was already a country facing food shortages, crippling power outages, and strong government regulations — these struggles have only become more intense.

That’s why we’re asking you to help provide Cubans with one of their most essential needs. Please pray about how much you might give to Safe Water for Cuba and follow the link below.

Cuba may just be 90 miles off the coast of Florida but it might as well have been on the moon during the pandemic — it was physically unreachable by our team in the United States. And yet the Lord still did great things through Haven’s Spanish broadcast El Faro de Redención.

Our ministry to Cuba is focused on shining the light of Christ from all of Scripture for all of Cuba and all the world. We do this through daily 30-minute radio programs that include biblical insights, Cuban music, local testimonies, and prayers for the Cuban church and believers around the world.

But how can a US based ministry collect stories from Christians in Havana and even the hard-to-reach churches of the Cuban countryside? The answer is simple . . . we have a team on the ground.

Jennifer Letford (Producer for Cuban Content) interviews Miguel and Grisela about their ministry to inmates in a Cuban prison.

Serving as our Producer for Cuban Content in the field, Jennifer Letford is a critical member of the team who helps El Faro’s broadcast remain deeply connected to what’s top of mind for Cubans today. Working alongside our network of volunteers and local churches throughout the country, Jennifer collects countless interviews with Cuban believers to be included on the program every day.

Not only does this keep our content relevant, but it enables the local church to build itself up through real-life stories and encouragement. And since El Faro airs on more than 50 stations throughout the Spanish-speaking world, it also allows Cuba’s unique voice to be heard in a way that’s never been possible before.

From time to time we air an entire series of testimonies of God’s grace reaching Cubans from many walks of life with the saving news of Jesus. Woven through many of the testimonies are stories of extreme hardship where people were looking for answers and found them in the Lord.

Jennifer Letford interviews Pastor Yosvany in Perla, Cuba.

Many others were saved after seeking refuge in the false promises of practices like Santería, a syncretistic religion blending elements of Christianity with rituals rooted in West African paganism.

Sometimes, the testimonies are surprising — a woman dreaming of someone standing on a staircase, then seeing that staircase at a local church where she found Jesus!

The Lord is working in powerful ways to draw many in Cuba to faith in Jesus. Men and women, youth and elderly believers have the opportunity to reach their nation through El Faro’s nightly broadcast across the island.

How You Can Help

The first and best way you can partner with this crucial Cuba ministry is through prayer. Will you pray for our team laboring in the U.S. and Cuba to bring gospel-centered teaching and testimonies by radio to many listeners looking for hope?

You can learn more about the current state of Cuba and our ministry by listening to Haven’s 5-part series next week that’s all about Cuba’s challenges and opportunities for the gospel. You can also get a more complete picture of the Great Revival that’s taken place over the past several decades here.

And, finally, you can also become a partner in this ministry through your financial gift. We need to raise $50,000 to cover the cost of broadcasting to all of Cuba through the end of this year. Click here to learn more.

However you plan to partner with this ministry, I want to thank you for your love and interest in the Cuban Church. Your prayer and support ensures that El Faro will air Christ-centered and relevant content throughout Cuba and the Spanish-speaking world every day.
