Psalty the Singing Songbook is a little bizarre at first glance, but this beloved character and his songs have touched millions of lives around the world for the past 40 years.
In 1979, Ernie and Debby Rettino set out to create the very first praise album produced especially for kids. But as they got going, the Rettinos quickly discovered they were missing something vital. They needed a character to help kids better understand God’s desire for worship. Moments later, they came up with Psalty.

I remember loving Kids Praise Music Psalty when I was 7 and and in my teens!! I remember when I met him and danced with him! Many of the songs that were sung at OCC were Psalty songs including Jesus Name Above All Names!
What a great memory. Thanks for sharing!
I do have a sentimental love for Psalty to this day!!
I remember playing this cassette in our mini van for our children. We would sing our hearts out and it was great. I was wondering if there is a list of all the songs on the different CD’s. I remember the song “Beautiful Feet”. Is that on one of the CD’s?
Hi Debbie. You might find a list of each individual song on iTunes or other places to you would download song files. It looks like “Beautiful Feet” is on Kids Praise 4, which is not one of the albums we’re currently carrying. Thanks for sharing your memories with these albums. It’s encouraging to see how many people still love Psalty.
I remember listening to Psalty when I was 6 now I’m 47 and introducing my daughter who is 5 to Psalty such great memories. I sing along to all these songs with her.
Ditto!!! When I listened to the Praise Album #1 back in 1990 via cassette tape, the words to the album had been burned in my brain. I knew every word by heart. It’s a great feeling to remember old worship songs that being back old memories.
When my son was about 4 (he’s 34 now) we watched Psalty on TV. One day I was sitting on the couch and Carter sensed I was upset about something. He sat down next to me and began singing “I Will Cast All My Cares Upon You.” Except he sang “I YAY all of my burdens down at your feet.” Now his fiancee has cancer and I’m going to remind him of this song. I know it will help him.Thank you!
What a powerful story. Thanks for sharing, Teresa!
If you ever wanted to teach by example how to praise. If you ever wanted to be lifted from whatever you are expecting into a place of joy, listening to and singing along with this music is the way to go. So much FUN for everyone; an easy way to get a carload of people on the same page with little effort. Travel by car long distances and short can be daunting depending on the personalities and ages of kids/ adults in a car, but not with the atmosphere provided by this music.
Psalty is the BEST!! My adult kids still remember the songs and situations. I love Psalty myself… truly God was in this!
I grew up with Psalty and my kids grew up with Psalty and now I ordered a couple of sets for the Grandbabies and Godchildren to grow up with Psalty. Love the music and the fun! Thankyou so much!
I LOVED these as a kid and can’t wait to share them with my kids. Also don’t forget about HiTops, that was awesome also.
I grew up enjoying the Kids Praise songs. Now my kids are singing along and dancing in delight to the very same songs! Glory to God!
We used to put on big productions on with the churches in our town of Psalty the singing songbook. I was one of the kids praise kids and my brother played Psalty’s son. I still sing these songs to my kids. Such an amazing impact they had on so many kids!
Wow! What a cool history and connection to Psalty!
Our kids grew up on Psalty in the 80’s and our church Hosanna Chapel in Bellflower put on several programs. So glad to see you all keeping it alive for our grandchildren!
These songs made my childhood. Came online looking for the songs so that my son can experience them. Psalty is indeed a blessing.
I gave my life to Jesus because of Psalty. I thank God for Ernie and Debbie and the kids. My kids love Jesus because of them too and now I teach children to worship Jesus. I am also so grateful to the little Christian book stall in Pontypridd Market in Wales who ordered the LPs in as far back as 1982.
Thank you for this ministry. Psalty was an instrumental part of my children and now I’ve introduced Psalty to my grandchildren. They all love him and I use the songs to further remind them about Jesus. As soon as they get in my car they want Psalty. Thank you, so very much.
I bought ” Psalty The Singing Song Book” for my children in the 80s. They played it over and over again. As the children got older, I somehow forgot about that tape. However my daughter called me up a couple of days ago asking about those songs and said that she wanted to play it for a little boy that she is currently fostering.
I remember the cassette in my grandparents minivan. They have 10 grandkids from the 80’s/90’s. We listened to that everywhere we went. We all loved it. I just ordered the cd for my car. Praying my son takes to it the way we did and it becomes a tradition.
Hi, This is Ernie Rettino aka Psalty. I’ve never seen this page before.I’m thankful for all the wonderful comments and how God has been using this ministry now for over 40 years. Just a note: The industry is pushing all to downloading and streaming. Progress is progress and we adapt. But, Don’t throw out your CDs & DvDs. They are your best security if the Internet goes down, whether normal outages or cyber attacks, or “the cloud” decides to edit you, or files become corrupted. Get the idea. Whatever, I’m blessed to know that parents and grandparents recognize the need to feed kids with real spiritual food that speaks to them on their level about real worship. “For they that worship must worship Him in Spirit and Truth” Be blessed, Psalty
