“Do not conform … to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:2
“Follow your heart”? But our hearts need total transformation, a full re-make, a complete wardrobe change!

How do we replace our old sinful clothes with Christ-like clothing? A property owner was selling his warehouse and its land. The neglected, empty building had been ruined by vandals. When the property was shown to a prospective buyer, the owner promised to repair and clean up everything. But the buyer said, “Forget about the repairs. When I buy this place, I’m going to build something completely different. I don’t want the building; I want the site.”

We need to give God our property and let Him rebuild. He changes us and reclothes us “with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” so we can “bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have.” Because of Him, we “forgive as the Lord forgave” (Colossians 3:12-13).

“Dear Lord and Father of mankind,/ Forgive our foolish ways;/ Reclothe us in our rightful mind,/ In purer lives Thy service find,/ In deeper reverence, praise” (John Greenleaf Whittier, 1872).
