“Praise be to God … the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all of our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Often when we have suffered through a painful experience, we become sensitive to others who are suffering in the same way. A desire to support and encourage takes root. That desire can become a passion that blossoms into vision for ministering comfort, bringing beauty from the ashes of our own pain and loss. Each of us has been intentionally and specifically endowed with a gift from the Holy Spirit that equips us to minister in Jesus’ name.

I heard a pastor announce the need for workers in various church programs. “Entry level positions are available,” he said. But churches are not corporations, and they deal in human hearts that are changed by the work of the Holy Spirit. You and I are instruments in His hands. We’re God’s magnificent “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

Pray for understanding of the gifts you’ve been given and how and where to use them. There you will experience the joy of the Spirit who gave the gift to you in the first place.
