“When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth … [he]was enraged … and went off to make war against … those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.”

Revelation 12:13, 17
Spiritual warfare is often taken lightly. Regularly, it works to cause division and disunity in our relationships. Dare we underestimate the devil’s hatred for the Lord and His followers?

Since the moment Satan was cast out of heaven, his mission has been to ruin anything and anyone God loves. Sometimes we’re easily deceived by what presents itself as good but is a wolf in sheep’s clothing (see Matthew 7:15). Peter writes, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

But take heart! Even little children can thwart the devil when they sing or speak words of praise to God. “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise … to silence the foe and the avenger” (Psalm 8:2). Evil is subdued when a heart, a house, or a sanctuary is praise-filled.

As God’s people put on Jesus, their spiritual armor, and as they participate in worship, adhere to the Word, and dedicate themselves to prayer, the Lord will “tear out the fangs” and “break the teeth” of hungry lions (see Psalm 58:6).
