“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.”

1 Corinthians 13:11
Marriages can struggle when there is a lack of understanding of God’s Word. Having biblical knowledge without maturing in Christ’s love impedes growth in a home, in a family, and in the church. Peter tells us in his first letter to “crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (2:2).

Paul wrote to the Corinthian believers about growing up and maturing in the Lord, tucking his words into one of the most famous passages in the Bible—the “love chapter” of 1 Corinthians 13. Even many who do not claim to be Christians have heard the “love is patient, love is kind” verses and consider these to be laudable.

But as maturing believers, we know a deeper truth from them. While our relationships and marriages benefit from not being rude, proud, self-seeking, keeping records of wrongs, etc., it is Jesus Himself who has embodied every one of these qualities in His love for us. He always protects, always perseveres. His love never fails.

Hide that Word in your heart. Let it mature you and be your stronghold at all times.
