The God Who Sees, Provides, and Endures

The Bible gives us more than one name for God because no single word can capture His fullness. Each name tells a story, reveals His character, and draws us deeper into the knowledge of who He is.

Three of these names: El Roi, El Shaddai, and El Olam, speak to deep places in the human heart: our longing to be seen, our need for strength, and our desire for stability in a world that constantly changes.

El Roi: The God Who Sees Me

There are moments when life feels heavy and lonely, when it seems like no one notices the burdens you carry. But God does. He has revealed Himself as El Roi, the God who sees.

“You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13)

Hagar, an Egyptian servant, spoke these words in the wilderness after being cast out and left to survive on her own. Yet it was there, in isolation and fear, that the Lord met her. He didn’t merely observe from afar, he found her, called her by name, and gave her hope.

El Roi is not detached or unaware. He sees every tear, every fear, every quiet act of obedience. And because He sees, He also acts according to His perfect wisdom and compassion.

El Shaddai: God Almighty

“I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless” (Genesis 17:1)

When God appeared to Abram to reaffirm His covenant promise, He revealed Himself as, God Almighty. He is not only powerful, but also all-sufficient—the One who sustains and supplies.

God’s strength is not something He gives in part. His power is limitless, and His grace is never lacking. The same God who calls us to walk with Him is the One who enables us to do so. In our weakness, He is not diminished. When we fall short, He remains faithful.

This is not self-help. This is the sovereign help of the God who has bound Himself to His people in covenant love.

El Olam: The Everlasting God

“Abraham… called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God” (Genesis 21:33)

Abraham had witnessed many changes—years of waiting, moments of testing, seasons of joy. Yet in the end, he worshiped El Olam, the Everlasting God.

Everything around us is subject to change. Circumstances shift. People disappoint. Time moves forward. But God remains. He is outside of time, unchanging and faithful. His purposes cannot be undone, and His promises do not grow old.

El Olam is our unshakable foundation. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and He will complete the good work He began in His people.

In every season, whether of joy or sorrow, waiting or renewal, you can call on God—not as a distant or abstract figure, but as El Roi, El Shaddai, and El Olam. These names are not merely titles. They are revelations of God’s covenantal care, His sustaining power, and His eternal presence.

So wherever this day finds you, remember who God is.

The God who sees.
The God who strengthens.
The God who endures.

Call on Him by name, and rest in who He has always been.
