Steve DeWitt on the Highs and Lows of Loneliness

Is there a sweetness or a blessing offered in the valley of loneliness? Steve DeWitt believes that there absolutely is, and he knows this from experience.

For years, DeWitt was the only never married megachurch pastor in the United States. This put him in proximity to thousands of people, yet he lived his daily life alone. Over some 8,000 days as an adult single, and now eleven years of marriage, Pastor Steve has a unique perspective on solitude and aloneness.

On today’s episode of the Great Stories podcast, he joins David Wollen to discuss this unique perspective on how loneliness doesn’t necessarily have to be our enemy. It can actually become the path God uses to draw us nearer to Christ.

Loneliness: Don’t Hate It or Waste It. Redeem It

In a time when loneliness is at an all-time high, Steve DeWitt demonstrates how the gospel of Jesus empowers us to redeem the deep ache of isolation.

For years, Steve DeWitt was the only never married megachurch pastor in the U.S. This put him in proximity to thousands of people, yet he lived his daily life alone. With over two decades as an adult single, and now eleven years married, Pastor Steve now has a unique perspective on solitude and aloneness.

In this book, DeWitt speaks to all hearts with rich biblical truth and practical help. Writing on relevant topics such as loneliness and the gospel, singleness, marriage, and leadership—he also shows us how loneliness doesn’t have to be our enemy. Instead, God can redeem it for our souls to experience the presence, promises, and power of Christ.

I love Steve DeWitt’s message on loneliness. It was perfect timing for me after I was feeling sorry for myself yesterday but then came to my senses; and all was well after thinking about things. I am an active widow of 1.5 years. I love to be alone unless I don’t want to be! But I do see how loneliness can propel us to better things; intimacy with Jesus is one of those things. It was my loneliness in my first marriage of many abuses that caused me to run to Jesus! But this message is giving me more to process.
