Joni Eareckson Tada: Suffering is a Necessary Part of Knowing Jesus

What does it mean to practice the presence of God? Rather than relying on “cafeteria-style spirituality,” Joni Eareckson Tada reminds us that God shares His joy on His terms—and His terms call for us to, in some measure, suffer like Jesus.

In fact, Joni goes on to describe how Christians too often want to numb or run away from pain and discomfort. But if we want to get to know this “man of sorrows,” God wants us to feel our own afflictions deeply.

We just ordered your book yesterday, and I’m really looking forward to reading it. And how coincidental that I’ve just finished reading Brother Lawrence’s book by David Winter for about my fourth time, especially the part about dealing with pain (of which I have a good amount as well). It was given to me by our ex-pastor’s wife when I was baptized last year and it is so meaningful. Thank you for all that you are doing as you work for Jesus and spread his word.
