Joni Eareckson Tada Explains Why Hymns Still Matter

The deep love that Joni Eareckson Tada has for hymns is as inspiring as her testimony. A diving accident as a teenager left her a quadriplegic, but through her suffering, she has found deep joy in Christ. Now in her 70s, Joni continues to share His love in the most natural way she knows—through song.

She sings wherever she goes. Not for attention, but because worship is as much a part of her as breathing. At her ministry’s headquarters, she doesn’t take the elevator to the second floor—she takes the ramp. Not for convenience, but so she can fill the air with a hymn, encouraging her staff as they work. Her voice, clear and unwavering, carries the hope of Christ to those around her.

This week on Haven Today, David Wollen sits down with Joni to talk about her book, Timeless Hymns for Family Worship. In it, she shares her favorite hymns, inviting families to make worship a part of their daily rhythm. In an exclusive clip, she reflects on how these songs are rooted in Biblical truth.

These timeless hymns remind believers of Christ’s unchanging truth and His faithfulness in all circumstances. Bringing these gospel-centered moments into your home helps keep His promises at the heart of your everyday life.

Timeless Hymns for Family Worship

From beloved author Joni Eareckson Tada and Bible teacher Bobbie Wolgemuth comes a lovely gift book celebrating the classic hymns that bring gospel-centered moments to your home.

For generations, Christians have turned to hymns filled with biblical truths to carry them through both joys and trials. Long before Joni’s diving accident at age 17, she learned classic hymns including “Holy, Holy, Holy,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” Those hymns sustained her throughout some of the darkest nights in the hospital and they continue to inspire her today.

In Timeless Hymns for Family Worship, Joni shares some of her favorite hymns alongside exquisite artwork by Yuris Yoon. Each chapter includes Joni’s own tender meditations, the story behind the song, and the sheet music with lyrics for each hymn.

Thank you Joni for sharing your thoughts. I miss hearing hymns
in church and on Moody Radio. The modern songs do not touch our hearts like hymns. I find it hard to hear the words of the new songs because the music is so loud the words disappear. May God
Bless you for speaking up for our hymns. I pray Moody Radio will
Hear your cry! We listen to Haven Today and many more programs every day. More Hymns Please!!!!
    Love in Christ,
    Linda Wells
