The beginning of January is the one time of year when almost everyone wants to recalibrate their lives. For Christians wanting a fresh start, there is no substitute for daily time in God’s Word. And—while all of God’s Word is important and vital nourishment for our souls—today’s guests on the Great Stories podcast have a unique suggestion: let 2025 be the year you take a meditative journey through the Psalms.
Dr. Timothy and Julie Tennent are the husband/wife team who wrote a devotional companion book to the Psalms called A Meditative Journey Through the Psalms, which you can request at haventoday.org as our thanks for your gift to Haven Ministries. On today’s episode, they discuss their approach to meditating through the Psalms, as well how you can find Jesus in this central book of the Old Testament.
Timothy served as the President of Asbury Theological Seminary for 15 years, and is currently the Methodist Chair of Divinity, and Professor of World Christianity, at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University. Julie is a pianist and composer with a particular interest in the intersection of music and theology, as well as the rejuvenation of psalm singing in the worship of the church.

A Meditative Journey Through the Psalms
Let 2025 be the year you take a meditative journey through the Psalms.
Each day, Timothy and Julie Tennent sing a psalm together, prayerfully meditating on each one throughout the year. As a result, their beautiful hardback book A Meditative Journey through the Psalms gives readers an inside glimpse into these conversations—offering a guide for anyone who wants to engage the Psalms as a means of grace and foundation for worship.
As you journey through this beautiful hardback book alongside the Psalter, here are some of the deep questions you’ll find answered along the way:
- Since the Psalms were all written before the coming of the Messiah, how do we read or sing these as worship in light of Christ?
- How do we relate these acts of worship to all that we know about Jesus, the cross, the resurrection, the coming of the Spirit, the life of the church, and so forth?
- How do the Psalms relate to so many later acts of worship, such as hymns and choruses?
Whether you sing, read or pray the Psalms, this book serves as a unifying meditation guide for Christians everywhere.

This is a magnificent podcast from Charles Morris… How can I get a copy?
Hi Paula. I will send you an email with a file you can download. This page originally had a prior podcast mistakenly posted here. I will send you the one you are referring to with Charles Morris on Christmas Through the Eyes of Isaiah. But if you’d prefer to receive a physical CD, you can also call 800-654-2836 and request a disc to be printed with Haven Today programs 12/24/25-12/25/25—we just ask for a gift of any amount to the ministry to support our mission and help cover the costs of printing and shipping.
