"...God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can
stand up under it."
(1 CORINTHIANS 10:13B)
One morning before dawn, our family barely escaped a house fire. Our kids were young teens and we were sleeping on the second story of the house we had only moved into the day before. We hadn’t had a chance to check the smoke alarms or plan an escape route for the family. God led us to the way of escape from our fire, but if we had stopped to collect our treasured possessions or consider our loss, we would have burned with the house.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13, we are promised that God will faithfully provide us a way out so we can endure the temptations that we face. And He always makes good on that promise when we cry out for a way of escape. But many people fail to read the very next verse, “Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry” (v. 14). God offers us a way out, but we can’t wait long to flee, and we must leave our idols behind.
What idols of your heart keep you from fleeing the temptations you are facing right now? When He shows you a way out, will you leave them behind or continue to sin?
