"...It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes
from the mouth of God.'"
(MATTHEW 4:4)

Matthew 14:13-21
A friend told me she’d recently invited a co-worker home for an impromptu supper with her family. He sat at her rowdy table in almost stunned enjoyment, and on leaving told her it was the first time in his adult life he’d been invited into someone’s home for a meal.

Our culture is getting so isolated. Tense family dynamics and overwhelming schedules edge out the joy of even the simplest hospitality. Just getting a meal on the table for our own families is often all we can manage…and Satan loves the confusion and self-focus our too-busy lifestyles bring.

At least twice during His teaching ministry Jesus – no doubt exhausted Himself – invited huge, hungry audiences to be seated on the ground. Then He instructed His grumbling disciples to feed them, knowing that when the crowd’s most dire needs were met, they could better hear what He wanted to tell them.

A boy’s meager lunch brought refreshment to bodies…and hearts. Think how God can bless your smallest effort to make room at your table for another in His name!
