"Better what the eye sees than the roving of the appetite. This too is meaningless,
a chasing after the wind."
(ECCLESIASTES 6:9)

Read John 15:1-17
In his day, King Solomon was the wisest man on the face of the earth. The prosperity of his kingdom and his wealth were known far and wide. He was successful beyond belief. Surely he must have been content with his life. Yet we read his words, “‘Meaningless! Meaningless!’ says the Teacher. ‘Everything is meaningless!'” (Ecclesiastes 12:8).

Ecclesiastes is a book of wisdom, the tormented reflections of a deeply frustrated teacher. Solomon is widely believed to be its author, and the tragedy of his life is transparent throughout. Despite all he had, Solomon’s lust for the things of this world eventually enticed his heart away from God. He learned the hard way that, in the end, all this world has to offer is vanity and meaningless. He concludes that it is best to joyfully accept whatever God provides, to be content, and to focus your affections on Him.

This is why Jesus said, “Abide in me and I in you … these things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
