After we passed our one-year anniversary, I began to see once again my state of helplessness. I saw the patterns of sin that couldn’t simply be blamed on my tiredness or on not having known my husband would think or act a certain way. These days, I see clearly my conscious choice to sin. I often look at my husband with a hard heart and with selfish eyes. I know how to give grace, but the fact of the matter is, sometimes I just don’t want to.
The astounding thing is that Christ did not choose a bride who had it all together. He chose a people who rejected Him, who looked at Him stubbornly and with hard hearts. They spat in His face. They gave Him over to the authorities. They nailed Him to the tree. Most grievously, it’s as if you and I did all of these things to
Christ became weak for our sake, so that we might know Him in our weakness. Strangely, it is in our weakness that Christ is most present. Here, He draws near to us. Here, His power is made perfect. Here, He loves us.

WE ARE A WEAK BRIDE, BUT IT IS IN OUR WEAKNESS THAT WE SEE CHRIST AND HIS GLORIOUS POWER FOR US.
