“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his … only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us.”

1 John 4:9-10
You’ve probably had the chance to survey your Christmas gifts by now and determine if they fit well, if they work the way they’re supposed to, or if they measure up to your expectations. Some gifts cost little but hold great value. Others are very expensive yet do not benefit or delight us. Over time we even become aware of which friends or family members seem to be exceptionally good at picking out just the right gift.

God is the greatest gift-giver. He not only gave that which was most costly, but He also gave that which was needed the most and delighted us the most. When He sent Jesus into the world, His heart of overflowing love was evident. He knew what we needed and what would be the perfect gift for each of His children.

The gift of salvation is the only one that never grows old or tiresome or boring. When we have accepted God’s precious gift, we move forward into each day knowing we are living already in the light of His love and will one day live gloriously with Him in eternity. It makes a world of troubles and hardships much easier to bear.
