"The whole Israelite community set out...on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt."
(EXODUS 16:1)

Exodus 16
Did you see that verse 1 notes it was only the “second month” since the Israelites had been on the road out of Egypt? God had done some remarkable faith-building things already: struck Egypt with plagues, marched His people through the sea, led them by cloud and fire. But all that happened in the first month. This is the second month. One moment God seems so real and vivid and active, but then you hit the second month and you’re unsure if He is still on the job. You actually start to wonder if His gifts have run dry.

God shows His people that the second month is not a God-forsaken time, and the wilderness doesn’t have to be a God-forsaken place. The Israelites looked and saw the glory of the Lord in a cloud. Just when we think God has abandoned us, He shows up to be with His grumbling people. Jesus knows what it’s like. One moment He was being baptized, and the very next verse He was in the wilderness being badgered by Satan.

That’s why we can trust God in our “second month” times. He’s there with us!
