After we’ve been through a dark, cold, or rough patch in our lives, our souls start to expand at touches of freshness and light. The Lord breathes His blessings into us and we begin to breathe easier again. What a relief to put the dreary days behind us and expect better things from God’s tender hand.


I know life is brightening for me when I take my cue from the birds and start singing effortlessly again. Then the words and music floating from my throat further elevate the quality of my life and state of mind. Like humor and exercise, music seems to have an inherent normalizing factor.


Making music, especially when it’s to our loving Lord, can help us to bud again along with the spring leaves. As with the leaves, our blossoming isn’t instantaneous; rather, it’s an unfolding process that’s enjoyable to observe along the way. Little by little, Jesus harmonizes the plaintive warbling of our life circumstances with His grace notes until His boundless goodness comes through loud and clear again.
