“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

1 Peter 2:2-3
Every sport relies on fundamentals. Of great importance are the repetitive throwing and catching, the blocking and tackling, the maintaining a strong pace and rhythm, and the communicating with teammates. Performing the basic tasks again and again with excellence could be the difference between winning and losing. During a competition, a player or team can self-destruct simply because they failed to master the rudiments.

It may seem trivial to us as Christians to focus on the fundamentals of our faith, but it is essential to remind ourselves of the simple, powerful truths. When we recognize that we are made in God’s image but that we have sinned, it points us to our need for a Savior. We keep going back to the basics of the gospel, remembering what good news it really is for us. While the world seeks countless alternatives, there is One who can redeem us from our brokenness. His name is Jesus.

Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have His power at work in and through our lives. Apart from Him, we can do nothing (see John 15:5).
