"Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! ...I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm. ...I call to God, and the Lord saves me."
(PSALM 55: 6, 8, 16)

Psalm 55:1-19
We were standing on a bridge, straddling a short, twisting channel that connected the sea on our right and a harbor on our left. As the wind whipped the sea about, we breathlessly watched a fishing boat approach the tumultuous mouth of the channel. The waves pounded the rocks, but as the boat entered the hazardous waters, the captain guided his craft safely through danger and into the peaceful harbor. It was amazing to watch.

David’s life was churning like the stormy sea. A friend had turned on him, and he was in emotional agony. Desperate for a safe place to go from the storm, he called on God to help him. And He did!

Is your life like a tempestuous storm, too? Remember that God is in control, skillfully guiding us into a safe harbor where the
squall will not overtake us or threaten us. “Cast your cares on the Lord, and he will sustain you,” David writes (Psalm 55:22). Not only is God our harbor, but we also have an anchor in Jesus. There is no safer place for us than in Him through the storm.
