"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
(MATTHEW 5:5)

Matthew 5:1-16
In these tender words of Jesus, we find much encouragement to take along life’s road. Notice the blessing for the meek. The Greek word for meekness does not imply weakness, but rather controlled strength, humility and self-control empowered by the Spirit. It connotes a Christ follower who humbly comes before his God. As we humbly acknowledge our dependence on the goodness and grace of God, David writes of hope for us in a world of unrest: “the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace”
(Psalm 37:11).

Years ago (and I do mean many years ago!) in high school, I took a class called “print shop.” We would melt lead to be used in the old linotype machines. The lead would liquefy in a pot, and the impurities – the “crud” – rose to the top. We’d skim off the crud with a ladle, leaving pure lead for the next print project. The process is dated, but it’s a good analogy of what God does for us. He removes the “crud” from our spirits, leading to a heart of meekness and humility, ready and passionate for Him.
