"...may he work in us what is pleasing to him,
through Jesus Christ..."
(HEBREWS 13: 21B)

Philippians 1:3-6
My wife has become an excellent cook. As a result, I don’t help prepare meals as much as I used to when we were first married. One thing I would love to do again sometime is knead dough. I love mixing all the ingredients together and working the dough until it is just right. There is something soothing about that process.

The blessing of today’s passage alerts us to the fact that we need to please God. Yet Scripture says that on our own we can’t (Hebrews 11:6). So how do we get there? Do we need some kind of spiritual exercise or spiritual vitamins? Even then, how can we know that we are pleasing God?

The answer is amazingly simple: God works into us what is pleasing to Him. You might say He “kneads into us” the very things we need to do to please Him. As Paul explained in Philippians, God began a good work in you the day you put your faith in Jesus as your Savior. He won’t leave His work half finished. It’s not that we are such good people. Jesus has secured our future for us. I “kneaded” to know that!
