"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
(1 PETER 2:9)

1 Peter 2:9-10
Peter, himself a Jew, knew that his people were “chosen.” But what about the Gentile believers to whom Peter wrote? He insisted they were equally chosen. Peter was absolutely convinced that every person in the kingdom of God is chosen by God Almighty, whether Jew or Gentile, free or slave, educated or uneducated.

Many years ago when I first arrived in Tanzania to help the church there, I must admit that I did feel superior. Being white and fairly well-educated set me apart. Unlike the Tanzanians whose ancestors knew nothing of Jesus, generations of my family could tell of being Christians. Furthermore, at that time the western empires ruled the world, so to speak; I was privileged and I knew it.

Praise God that He shattered all that in me. While I lived there, God did a new and deep work in my heart, revealing my essential sinfulness. I was learning the nature of the kingdom of Heaven. It is for redeemed sinners of all cultures of the entire world. Those to whom I witnessed were just as “chosen” as I was!
