“If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

Psalm 37:23-24
Whether we are aiming toward faithfulness to God or not, He is directing our steps. He doesn’t adjust to fit our plans or the events in our lives. He adjusts us to fit His way. His plan for us was established before we were even born. Isn’t that awesome?

We don’t know exactly how His sovereign plan works within our free will, but we know that it does. When we come up against the unexpected, it is not unexpected to God. We think circumstances are reeling out of control, but we forget that we serve the God who sees ahead and has already interwoven His good plan with the strange, presumptuous will of human beings.

We stress and strain over finding God’s will. And while it is important to seek His direction in all things, if we have made an honest attempt to go forward in faith, there is no sense in turning back and wondering if somehow we missed His perfect plan. He has ordered our steps, even when we weren’t sure of them. Long ago He planned our will for His purposes. He will hold onto us despite our unfaithfulness.
