“He has spoken to us by his Son. … The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”

Hebrews 1:2-3
I had the opportunity many years ago to step into a room filled with federal agents all examining closely something laid out on tables. They were using magnifying glasses and zeroing in on bills that I assumed were fake money. When I inquired if they were looking at counterfeit bills, one agent replied, “Nope. These are the real deal. If we know the authentic bills implicitly, we can spot the bogus ones when the smallest detail is off.”

Later I thought of what a good illustration that is for believers in Jesus who want to be alert to false teachings, deceptive religions, and phony Messiahs. If we know the real one, we will be able to spot the counterfeit easily.

The Bible tells us that God has spoken to us by His Son and that He is the exact representation of the Father. During the Christmas holidays, plenty of counterfeits work their way in to what should be a celebration solely of Jesus’ incarnation. Don’t waste time examining the copies. Fix your eyes on the genuine article, the real deal. To know the One true God, look to Jesus.
