"I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong - that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith."
(ROMANS 1:11-12)

Romans 1:8-15
When my son recently left to return home across the country, I longed for him even as he departed. Longing to see someone is part of the deep love that we share only with those with whom we are in close relationship. Paul longed for the Christians in Rome and reminded us that close relationships should be encouraging, building each other up, imparting “some spiritual gift” that makes them stronger in Spirit. The time I spend with my son is “mutually encouraging” to each of us. We minister in similar ways, face similar struggles. We encourage one another that Jesus is the only answer for our problems, and His is the only strength we can rely on to do His work.

The saints of God encourage me so much by a kind word, by a prayer, by their concerns about my life. They share their faith with me, and it makes me stronger in mine.

Until the day of His return, we long for Jesus, greatly encouraged by His word that “…I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am”
(John 14:3).
