"As a young man marries a maiden, so will your sons marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you."
In the time leading up to our wedding, I had attempted to woo my future wife by, among other things, singing songs to her. I wrote some myself and adapted others into funny little love songs. Who knows what she was thinking? But since my singing didn’t drive her away, I kept at it.
The lines in the Bible that I think most profoundly speak of our Savior’s love are these: “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17). God sets aside an unlovable people who have not earned His love and who certainly have not stayed faithful. He quiets them with His love and even sings over them. Can you imagine the Lord of all Creation singing to you?
In the midst of so many emotions, after many months of waiting, we were finally married. One of the deepest feelings I had for Rachel was joy. She was mine and I was hers! I knew a little of the joy Christ, as our Bridegroom, has in us.
O JOY THAT SEEKEST ME THROUGH PAIN, I CANNOT CLOSE MY HEART TO THEE...
