"But God chose the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong... so that no one may boast before him."
(1 Corinthians 1:27, 29)

1 Corinthians 1:26-31
If you think you are one of the “have nots” of this world, then give glory to God. His followers are made up of the “have nots.” This verse describes me: foolish, weak, insignificant and despised. Does it ring true with you, too?

God does not choose the lowly things because they are the only things that will have Him. He does so because lowly things are exactly what He works through. In their weakness, His strength is made perfect. When you are weak, you actually are at your strongest because Christ’s power is front and center. When you are weak, you don’t try to do everything in your own strength because you know you don’t have any.

It’s humbling to come to the end of ourselves. “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). The first grace He gives is that He chooses you. He called you to follow Him and serve Him, to make disciples who would be baptized in His name. He chose you to tell others about the good news of salvation in Christ so that all the glory would go to Him, the One who saves.
