The jailed Apostle Paul had been delivered from discontent. Christ freed him to live in contentment and joy – behind bars! It is remarkable evidence of the presence and work of the Holy Spirit
when a prisoner with very few possessions, confined living space and no money can live joyfully and contentedly. Yet even the great apostle Paul needed to learn this. Twice he states that he had learned the freedom of contentment.
Lecturing behind bars on Christian theology has taught me a great deal about contentment. Just the reality of being free is reason for thanksgiving and joy. The fact that I can walk out of prison to be with my family and church family is a great blessing that many will never again know. It’s humbling to see my students – content with little – rejoice daily in the Lord.
Are you content with God and His providential plan for your life? Are you more than satisfied with Christ as your Savior and protector? Learn contentment in His good and wise will for you so that your hope may rest in Him.
