"'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and
I will make you fishers of men.'"
(MATTHEW 4:19)

Matthew 4:18-22
“Follow me.” If ever there were two words that changed the world, it was these. When we sign up for that ride, oftentimes we seem to forget that following Jesus isn’t a part-time job. It isn’t a game of bowling with the bumpers up. It isn’t a thing we do on weekends and holidays only. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He is calling us into a commitment that takes everything. Following Jesus may be wild and unpredictable, and it will change everything in our lives, especially who we are.

Certainly the first ones who set aside everything to follow Jesus saw their lives changed. Many of them even were called to lay down their lives at the end for their unshakable belief in the Christ. Do you think Jesus’ disciples had planned on that?

Sometimes our own goals cause us such tunnel-vision that we forget we’re not on a point-a to point-b journey. The events that happen along the way are in His perfect plan for us. The curves in the road, the detours, the alternate routes are all a part of following and trusting Him.
