"And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father..."
(ISAIAH 9:6)

Matthew 7:9-12
Frequently young people remark to me that it took them a long time to grasp the significance of God being a father. From the sad background of broken homes and shattered families, the term “father” often brings feelings of fear, anger, and even hatred. Fewer and fewer young people associate the word “father” with the strong defender, tender provider, and loving nourisher that God intended him to be.

But when God wants to convey those aspects of His love for us, His family, He uses “father” and then multiplies it by infinity, calling Himself the Everlasting Father. All that a good earthly father is to his family, God is to His children – only on a scale that we can barely even begin to measure. In Him is limitless, absolute love.

And He will never change! He is more solid than the Rock of Gibraltar, more tender than an evening breeze, more permanent than a diamond, more dependable than the rising sun. If even an earthly father knows how to give good gifts, won’t our heavenly Father care for us much more?
