"May God himself... sanctify you... May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it."
(1 THESSALONIANS 5:23-24)

Genesis 17:1-3a
In his book, Miracle On The River Kwai, Ernest Gordon tells of a day in the Japanese POW camp when a guard was furious at the end of a work day because a shovel was missing. When no one came forward to admit guilt, the guard threatened to kill all the prisoners. One man stepped forward, and the guard killed him. Later it was discovered that, in fact, no shovels were missing. Taking the blame for the missing shovel was costly, as taking the blame always is. I suppose that is why we are seldom willing to do so.

To walk in favor with God and receive His covenant blessing, we are required to be blameless. Everything would have to be in as perfect an order in our lives as the work crew without even one tool gone missing. We must be guiltless before a perfect and holy God to enter into His heaven. Like Abram, we can only fall facedown before God, knowing that we are blameworthy.

Is there any hope? Our hope is Jesus who willingly took the blame for our sin. He loved us so much that we can now stand before God, blameless. What a great word of blessing this is for you and me today!
