"God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and
was concerned about them."
(EXODUS 2:24-25)

Exodus 2:23-3:22
Long before God came to earth in the flesh as a baby in Bethlehem, He was with His people. Not at a distance, unconcerned or withdrawn, but truly with them – God with us, Immanuel.

When the Israelites were in bondage in Egypt, God was personally involved with their suffering. He heard their groaning, remembered His covenant promise, saw the people of Israel. He knew, as one translation says. These are not the activities of a shadowy, vague being, but of an intimate, personal God. He knew that they needed deliverance and acted by sending a rescuer. Moses felt terrified and unqualified when he was called to this, but God assured him that “I AM” was with him. It was He who would deliver His people through Moses.

Later in history, God heard His people groaning for a deliverer again. But this time He would come Himself, wrapped in flesh. He sent His own Son to save His people out of bondage to the power and penalty of sin with a forever-deliverance. Jesus became fully human in every way – and He knows.
