"Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil."
(LUKE 4:1-2)

Luke 4:1-13
Jesus isn’t the only one who uses object lessons. The devil does, too… and sometimes quite effectively. He even tried them on Jesus. When Jesus was fasting in the desert, Satan used three object lessons to tempt Him. What they were and how Jesus defeated them are now lessons for us.

The first was a stone. Jesus could have made the stone into bread as Satan suggested, but He chose the Father’s will over physical needs. Next Satan showed Him the kingdoms of the world. He offered Jesus control over this present world if Jesus would do things Satan’s way. Jesus chose the Father’s will instead. Finally, Satan tempted Jesus to defy the law of gravity and prove He was the Messiah. Jesus chose the Father’s plan to subject everything, even Satan, under His feet.

Satan attacks us also, using our physical needs, our desire for control, and our pride to keep us away from God’s will. Jesus defeated Satan by using the Word of God, and we can, too. Scripture cuts through the devil’s lies, leading us right
to Jesus.
