“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Romans 3:23-24
You and I live in times where sin often is minimized merely as a mistake. The gravity of our sin as an affront against God Himself (see Psalm 51:4) is disregarded. People don’t hate sin or turn from it because they do not consider the outrage that it is to our Creator.

Truthfully, times haven’t changed much. Mankind always has tried to shrug off or dismiss sin altogether. Paul wrote his letter to the church in Rome, emphasizing in 1:18-3:20 the nature and scope of the sin problem facing everyone. He provides no wiggle room or loophole for any sinner to escape the need for gospel forgiveness.

Following his explanation as to why we desperately need a Savior because of our depravity, Paul includes a beautiful summary of the abundant forgiveness found in Jesus Christ. He assures us that we have been declared righteous from the penalty of sin. He goes on to tell us that though our sin has offended the holiness of God, that offense has been wiped away through Jesus’ blood. We need only receive it by faith.

Praise God for this abundant, life-saving gift!
