“In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her … companions follow her and are brought to you. They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king.

Psalm 45:14-15
Who doesn’t love watching a wedding ceremony? Apparently, we love them so much that an estimated 1.9 billion people world-wide viewed the wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle in 2018!

We end the month’s Anchor by looking in on another royal wedding, this one in the book of Psalms, a ceremony that gives us a picture of Christ’s love for us.

The royal groom in the psalm represents Jesus, and the language spills over of this King’s goodness. For His beloved, He fights and wins battles; stands up for truth, righteousness, and meekness; and deals graciously. This is our King Jesus, our divine wedding groom!

The psalmist then speaks of the bride. She is in extravagant robes, garments that point to God’s perfect character and righteousness which He clothes us in. This bride is greatly desired by her groom just as you and I—astonishingly—are desired by Jesus. The love this bride receives demands a response: worship. One spouse should not “worship” the other, but in this vivid picture of Christ’s love for us, our response, too, is worship.
