“Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.”

Psalm 28:3
My aunt, a Christ follower, had lived in northern Zimbabwe for 50 years and knew the culture well. While we visited her, we stopped in a village shop where the store owner had recently come to faith in Jesus. Though she was now a Christian, the shopkeeper continued to sell carvings of the Zambezi river god of the people, not wanting to lose out on any profits. My aunt remarked, “It will not go well for her if she continues to market these.” She noted that Satanic activity is blatant in Africa but lurks in every unguarded place.

We read from one of David’s psalms that living a duplicitous life, speaking one way but acting in another, displeases the Lord. When a husband or wife harbors malice, what follows is distress, dysfunction, and sometimes even the end of the relationship. Those who are double-minded—who try to serve God and some other heart idol at the same time—are unstable in all their ways. They intend to keep all their options open.

The Lord wants our total faithfulness. When we falter, His faithfulness to us is without fail.
