“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’ Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning.”

1 Corinthians 15:33-34
If our behavior shifts depending on whom we’re with, our children are often the first to notice. Though they are young, they know that a compromise has been made. This evokes questions about who their parent genuinely is; it can rock a child’s world.

Our single-mindedness can become double-mindedness when we veer away from what we know to be true to avoid criticism and rejection. We do what Peter did, succumbing to that pressure and seeking the approval of his Jewish friends at the expense of trusting Gentile believers new in the faith. In our pursuit of acceptance, approval, and recognition, we forget that we find these very things in the arms of Jesus’ love.

Praise God that our heavenly Father’s character is unchanging. He is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). It is Christ’s desire to see consistent character and commitment in His followers. Because He understands we are but flesh and blood, His Spirit mercifully endures with us, patiently teaching us for our own sake and for the sake of our witness to others.
