“Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. … They all ate and were satisfied.”

Matthew 14:19-20
When my resources are low, I’m often given to worry. But when I offer thanks to the Lord, a supernatural touch from His hand eases my fears and rekindles my hope while I wait for His provisions. A thankless heart seems to subtract, whereas a thankful heart multiplies. Have you ever experienced that?

The Father was pleased to multiply the little of five loaves and two fish into more than enough as Jesus gave thanks for the good already in His hands. He reminds us that whatever our shortage, our heavenly Father provides above and beyond our needs, and our hearts well up in gratitude.

Whether our plate is full or empty, we are to express thanks simply because God is good. Because we know He is our portion, our gratitude overflows. When individuals, families, and church bodies frequently and generously practice thanksgiving, they witness the movement of God’s sustaining hand. Let’s step out in faith and confidence that where we are lacking, our Bridegroom who is “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8) will fill us to overflowing.
