“Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.”

Proverbs 4:13
I can’t count the times I’ve been shown the way in a crisis or received insight for a decision as I read the Word. Nor can I recall all the times someone responded to a sermon I’d given with, “Now I understand,” or “I was wrestling with something and wasn’t sure, but now….” I’ve known myself and others to hear from the Word of God and become refreshed, renewed, relieved, enriched in wisdom, joy-filled, and sometimes even healed. The Word has life-giving power.

President Abraham Lincoln said, “All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through [the Bible]. I have been driven many a time to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.” And Martin Luther (1483-1586) said of it, “The Bible is alive, it speaks to me. It has feet, it runs after me. It has hands, it lays hold of me.”

Think of times when the Word of God has shown you the way or laid hold of you. Ponder verses that have been particularly relevant to you. Give thanks to Him for His powerful Word which came alive for us in Jesus.
