“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes?”

Matthew 6:25
Perhaps the reason Jesus addresses this subject so plainly is because we naturally tend to focus on our physical needs. Much time and energy is spent securing these most basic of provisions: food and clothing. The bottom line is that we work to gain financial security and remove the fear of not having enough. In time, our earning power is gone, and our resources are depleted. We feel a distinct loss of control, and it is frightening.

Recently, a friend mentioned that I seemed to be worried about many things. The shock of her honest observation forced me to evaluate my “heart condition.” I discovered her words to be true. Though I professed to rely on God’s sufficiency, I had allowed the cares of life to govern my attitudes. After confession before the Lord, I reviewed His wonderful promises to me in Scripture until my worry began to dissipate.

A yielded heart finds security in the promises of God, not in accumulated resources. The process of yielding is not a one-time event but will have to be repeated throughout our days on this earth.
