“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 1:6
Two questions artists often chat about are “What is your process?” and “How do I know my painting is done?” Creating art can be formulaic or completely free. The challenge is to delight like a child in the process. A plan can improve the outcome or kill the expression by taming the sense of adventure. In either case, a painting’s progression has a great deal in common with navigating through life.

God, our Maker, set this up for us and is trustworthy to be our guide. He gave us Jesus Christ as security and the Holy Spirit as our mentor. When we abide in Christ through repentance, prayer, and worship, we trust fully in God’s process in both art and life. We can be curious adventurers in the unique ways He’s gifted us. This is true when we suffer, feel weak or confused, or even when we have made a mess of it all.

When our best efforts tap into our own inner power, it’s impossible to sustain. But our loving Heavenly Father gives everything His children need, including the sanctification of our work and our relationships with each other.
