“Moses’ father-in-law replied, ‘What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you.’”

Exodus 18:17-18
Emotional and physical fatigue can take their toll on us before we realize it. If you’re familiar with the stories of the life of Moses, you know that dealing with burnout and exhaustion is nothing new.

Jethro was a man of wisdom and candor, and he had come to visit one-on-one with his son-in-law Moses. Jethro observed the daily workload of Moses as the leader of the people, and he could see that the stress would surely lead to burnout. So he challenged Moses to consider a new methodology of leadership. Moses listened to his wisdom and learned how to delegate.

Do you ever find yourself in Moses’ position? You may be overwhelmed with all that social media forces on you through your phone, your computer, and technology. You feel the pressure of the world to keep up in your workplace, in your child-raising methods, in your home décor decisions, in everything! As Jethro said, “What you are doing is not good.”

Listen to the Lord’s call on your heart to be still before Him, to give thanks, and to meditate on the Word.
