“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 4:4
As these words are being written, the COVID-19 pandemic has entered the world. Many of us have seen grocery stores run out of food and supplies. Even in normal times, we may lack the cash to buy the things that we need. Frustration can cause us to think that God Almighty is withholding provision to get our attention.

Maybe we need to reconsider what it means to eat, or what it means to live. Our Creator knows our spiritual needs as well as our physical needs. He is not a cruel parent denying us supper until we clean our room. If He causes us to experience physical want, it is to show us our spiritual want. This life is not all there is; eternity waits for us. Well-fed, we may grow complacent and pay no attention to the life to come (see Proverbs 30:8-9).

Jesus lived a life of poverty and suffering. He also knew He would return to the glories of heaven. That same magnificent glory awaits us in eternity one day when all our hardships dissolve and our sufferings melt away. Believe in Him and His Word to see you through.
