“Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind? Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens when the dust becomes hard?”

Job 38:36-38
The awesomeness of God! Just think of any part of our world and its boundless detail. I laugh because in my astronomy class years ago we thought there could be as many as 10,000 galaxies. Today we know there are trillions of them!

And yet our God who formed and put all of this in order comes near to endow the hearts and minds of His children with wisdom. God is all-powerful and all-knowing, and therefore all wisdom has its source in Him. James affirms that God’s wisdom never runs dry; it’s sealed in our hearts and minds. “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere” (3:17).

James also says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (1:5). This is a trustworthy promise as we face obstacles and difficult situations. With wisdom from His heart to ours, we are beautifully joined to the “one who can do all things” (Job 42:2).
