“The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.”

Psalm 19:7b
In Scripture, wisdom is the skill of living in keeping with the cosmic order of the world; in other words, thinking as God thinks. According to the psalmist, God’s trustworthy statutes make us wise and skilled in living a godly life.

My wife and I took some things to an antique dealer who told us what had great value and what had little. In the same vein, God’s Word determines what choices, decisions, priorities, and actions are valuable in His sight. It points us in godly directions. By immersing ourselves in the Bible, we grow skilled at determining what’s valuable and wise.

Through Scripture we understand that our highest goal in life is loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves rather than seeking our own glory. We learn that it is better to think on things that are lovely and praiseworthy rather than focusing our thoughts on the sin that tempts us and lures us daily. God’s Word turns us rightside up in an upside down world. Ultimately, all the wisdom of God has come to us in Jesus, through whom we are welcomed into heaven.
