"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and
will forgive us our sins and purify us
from all unrighteousness."
(1 JOHN 1:9)

Numbers 25:1-6
Israel had sinned by engaging in immorality with Moabite women. And they did so after they had seen so faithfully and miraculously the hand of God in their lives. Because of that sin, God sent judgment. At the very time they were experiencing God’s judgment, a man brazenly “brought to his family a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel…” (Numbers 25:6). What was
he thinking?

Before I condemn too harshly that man’s
foolishness, however, I need to look to my own heart. Unfortunately, we are all prone to sin and often do things we immediately or later regret. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”

That is why Jesus’ message is so vital for us.
We are all dependent on the grace of God – expressed through forgiveness in Jesus. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Don’t ever take His
forgiveness lightly!
