“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the LORD has helped us.’”

1 Samuel 7:12
If you’re old enough, you may recall where you were and what you were doing on the day President John F. Kennedy was shot in 1963. I could tell you the same from a January day in 1986 when I watched footage of the space shuttle Challenger’s explosion shortly after lift-off.

But for most of us—even those beyond the United States—we have a story of where we were when 9/11 (as we now call it) occurred. We remember what we were doing, what we were thinking, how we felt. There are websites where people around the globe have told what was going on in their lives the day four planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into high-profile buildings, killing nearly 3,000 people in one morning.

Where were you on September 11, 2001? You could probably answer immediately. Part of our God-designed humanity is marking significant events, memorializing, remembering. Let’s take this month to set up Ebenezer stones of God’s mercies that have always risen from the ruins of the lives of His people, even from the rubble of 9/11.
