“You are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

2 Corinthians 3:3
If you say my name to those who know me, many things may come to mind about me, among them funny, sarcastic, athletic, pastor, husband, and dad. You see, a name represents who we are; it captures the essence of us. As a prisoner, it is hard to lay aside your given name and identify instead with a number. You’re now “inmate 479824.” You don’t feel like inmate 479824, but that’s your new “name.”

We often refer to God as “Lord” or “Father.” But did you know that God has a name? It’s Yahweh. As you read the Old Testament, any time you see “LORD,” that is a substitute for the divine name of the God of the Bible. So when He tells us that we should pray for His name to be hallowed, He’s not referring to His various titles, but to His actual name.

What do you think your name says about you to the people who know you best? When people hear your name, what comes to mind? Convict? Criminal? Christ’s cherished, valued one? To God you are more than a number or even a name; you are precious and honored in His sight (see Isaiah 43:4).
