“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
If we include Thanksgiving with Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter, we see that we have recently moved through several months of celebrations of one kind or another. We ask ourselves here at the beginning of April, What season is it?
You may be thinking that it’s Major League Baseball season, which started early this year. Some of you know what hunting season it is. In California it’s always tourist season. My wife and I lived in Chicago where there are only two seasons: winter and construction!
This poem we have in Ecclesiastes 3 is famous, and it is giving consideration to the seasons of our lives. With that in mind, you might say you’re in a season of rejoicing, or of sorrow. Some of you are in a busy season. Others are in a season that has slowed down in retirement. Perhaps you are entering a new season. And of course, many of us have loved ones who clearly are in life’s final season.
Whatever season we are in, God has written eternity on our hearts (v. 11) within it. Let’s dwell on that throughout this month following Easter.
